About The Author
Shri Ashok Biswal
Shri Ashok Biswal is a former Indian Forest Service officer who devoted his professional life to forest and wildlife conservation across India.
His journey through the country’s diverse landscapes—from the Andaman coast to Arunachal Pradesh and across the Eastern and North-eastern states—gave him an intimate understanding of forests, wildlife and the communities living alongside them.
For Ashok Biswal, forests are more than ecological resources. They are living and sacred realms, deserving of respect, protection and belonging.
He expressed this philosophy through his empowering credo:
“Forest is Divine.”
Through his work, writing and interactions with forest communities, he sought to nurture a deeper sense of confidence, connection and responsibility toward the natural world.
A prolific writer in English and Odia, he has explored stories, novels and poetry inspired by forests, culture, wildlife and conservation. His literary work is complemented by evocative nature photography, allowing him to capture both the visible beauty of nature and the emotions hidden within it.
About the book
A New World Order With My Birds
Some voices disappear quietly. This book listens before they are gone.
A New World Order With My Birds is a tender, soul-stirring celebration of birds whose vanishing habitats, fading melodies and fragile freedoms often remain unnoticed.}When Cyclone Amphan swept through Kolkata in 2020, much of the narrative understandably focused on human suffering and devastation. Yet, amidst that tragedy, another quiet loss unfolded in the avian world.
During the long COVID-19 lockdown, from his balcony at 1, Belvedere Estate near the National Library in Alipore, Ashok Biswal found solace in another world—the world of birds.
He watched.
He listened.
He photographed.
And he wrote.
The flutter of wings, the morning chorus and the fleeting appearance of birds gradually became a source of companionship and reflection.
What emerged was poetry born from love, observation and ache.
